Family Parties
When you live hundreds or thousands of miles away from family, opportunities for gatherings are few and far between. There are times that this seems like a blessing: family drama, misunderstandings & day-to-day prying can often be avoided, but avoided at the expense of the small pleasures of casual family get-togethers. Last night, we had the unexpected pleasure of a spontaneous family gathering. My parents and niece were in town for a couple of days, visiting from California. I had planned a meal that included some favorite foods of my parents. Rather at the last minute, we discovered that another niece and her family had just arrived in town, so we phoned and invited them for dinner and we suddenly had a party.
Sirloin Steak with Stilton Sauce (for my dad)
Roasted Potatoes with Garlic, Fresh Rosemary & Kosher Salt
Roasted Asparagus with Balsamic & Olive Oil
Fresh Cherry Pie (for my mom)
