Fresh Oysters on the Grill

Have you ever eaten oysters, just recently plucked from the salty water and eaten right off of the grill? This is just one of the amazing food experiences we just had in Washington, where we vacationed this year. We were renting a little house on San Juan Island, which was just up the road from Weswtcott Bay Seafood Farm. We had just spent the last hour collecting dinner ingredients around Friday Harbor: fresh King salmon from a little seafood shop on the pier; Gorgonzola & Caramelized Onion Focaccia and Townshend T3 red wine from Deb at the Big Barn Bakery; salad & Haggen Daz Creme Brulee ice cream & pound cake from Kings Market. We made our way back to the house, but first stopped at the seafood farm, where we chose fresh oysters and clams from the water. At the house, we fired up the grill, and cooked the oysters for just a few minutes until they barely opened, squeezed on some fresh lemon juice, and voila! a perfect appetizer. We briefly marinated the salmon with a little fresh rosemary from the garden and some olive oil and garlic, and warmed the bread in the oven. We ate this feast looking out over Westcott Bay, as the sun came down.
